At Abbotswood our 'Friends of Abbotswood' committee work hard throughout the year to raise money directly for the school so that improvements can be made to facilities that children use on a daily basis. Last year, one of the areas the school wanted to bring back into good use was the Year 6 Quad. This is the space that connects the main school with the year 6 building.
In the past it had been lovingly used, and was home to a wonderful pond brimming with wildlife, but as can often happen, over time it started to look a bit tired and needed some TLC.
The friends of Abbotswood agreed to pay for improvements which included putting down some all weather 'pretend' grass so that once the work was completed it could be used as long as the ground was dry. They also helped purchase new plants and we were able to make repairs and tidy up the whole area.
Our wonderful site team, Mr Sullivan and Mr Feltham put their usual superb effort into making sure the transformation met their high standards and I think you will agree that the pictures show just how much difference this made and how user friendly the space is now.
Our thanks to the friends of Abbotswood for their hard work and efforts to raise the money and to the site team for making it happen. (and you'll be pleased to know that the pond, not shown in these pictures, is still home to a large family of newts!)
