The Abbotswood Book Beastie

Many of you will remember our campaign in the summer term to secure a grant from the One Family Foundation to improve the facilities in our school library. As part of us winning that campaign we had the opportunity to celebrate our success with representatives from the foundation, the children, some parents and supporters from the local community.

At the celebration assembly we invited Simon Chadwick, a local illustrator and author, to create a character for our library. Children were invited to share ideas about what the character should look like and they had some amazing ideas!

Simon kindly agreed to take the finished sketch away and complete the piece for us so that the 'Abbotswood Book Beastie' could become a feature in the library. We were extremely excited to see the finished artwork which Simon sent us this week. I'm sure you will all agree that he is a very gifted artist.

The wonderful 'Chad' with his crocodile tail and fiery knees, who wears a mask to hide his true identity and has robot arms with a turtle shell back, will soon be found adorning one of the walls in the library.... remember to be quiet in the Library children... because Chad will be watching!

We would like to thank Simon for his time and talent, we really appreciate it. We have been busy spending the money we received and have already installed some new furniture and books, we will share some more images of the work once the old furniture has been re-upholstered.
