Our group put together some designs to win a makeover in the school hall. Unfortunately, after many acts including a video, petitions, designs and a letter to the canteen rescue company we didn’t win the first prize but still won the runner up prize of £10,000. Despite not winning we still got to have our hall redecorated and they loved our designs with a theme of planets. Every planet represented a symbol of Abbots wood (Planet care, Planet Smart, Planet Rock etc.) We got an artist to come in and work with us to make a mural.

We all had great fun painting the planets and watching our planets slowly transform their selves into a master piece! We were all thrilled with the work we had done and although we didn’t win we kept our heads held high and ended up with a work of art. Mrs Read helped us along the way and we couldn’t have done it without her.

Our School Aims
We wish to update our school grounds to meet the needs of the pupils, parents, staff and community. There have been a few improvements over the last two years but the whole site now needs a reappraisal so that the best use is made of the space available. There is not enough shade in the summer months and children would love more seating so they can chat to their friends or eat their lunch outside.
The front of the school is hidden from the roadside and is difficult to find. Access to the site is difficult as so many people need to come onto the site at the same time. Keeping pedestrians and traffic apart is a challenge. There is little parking space for visitors and it is extremely congested in the car park. There is some play provision but there is a need for more variety as well as more challenge for the older children.
We wish to commit to healthy living, exercise and creativity as well as improve our play spaces. We need to think creatively about getting the very best we can from the space we have.
