Our gallery for the children staying in school during the week of the trip to Stubbington Study Centre, they will be taking part in ‘Abbington Activity Week.’ Most of the activities that the children will take part in will be outdoors, resembling the activities that will be experienced at Stubbington.
Year 4 are loving their topic: S.O.S Save Our Species. In Science, they have been learning how to perform a scientific investigation by exploring which materials would make the warmest nest for a harvest mouse. We have been so impressed at how passionate they have been about the conservation of vulnerable species!
Year 4 had a fantastic hook day for their topic: S.O.S. Save Our Species. They were visited by local author Martin Bradley and falconers from Liberty's Owl, Raptor and Reptile Centre. The children loved learning about the conservation of the Hen Harrier with Martin before meeting a variety of birds of prey native to the United Kingdom with the Liberty's Team.
Year 6 have really enjoyed learning about the Ancient Greeks in Autumn 2. In this topic, the children have become historians, using a range of primary and secondary sources to discover how the Ancient Greeks have influenced the modern world. The children have been busy creating paintings of Mount Olympus. They have also worked hard to write some fantastic poetic instructions linked to our rich text – Percy Jackson and The Lightening Thief.
Dragons: Are they mythical creatures or are these legends founded on real history? We spent the morning discovering the science of ‘Dragonology’ with a hands on session looking at different reptiles, their habitats and behaviours. Using their findings, the children will create their own technical drawing of a dragon. We are looking forward to seeing their creations!
Year 4 came in today to find a peculiar and magical addition to their shared area: The Nowhere Emporium had arrived! They spent the day exploring magical worlds and started to read their new Rich Read (The Nowhere Emporium by Ross Mackenzie) which they loved! Quote of the day: The Nowhere Emporium is amazing! I think our imaginations are powering it! -Harrison 4EH
